Culture Shock is suprised
feeling of someone who come to another place/country, look at the native people
behaviour or habit that is contradict or unusual for the visitor. The visitor
feels very different in that kind of environtment and nearly can not stand for it. For example, an
indonesian man, from village, go abroad to study or work in USA find out that
women mostly wear a very short skirt, underwear-like clothes. Actually he feels
very shock or surprised because in indonesia its very rare for woman to wear
such clothes.
Stereotype is a kind of
oversimplified or too generalized culture of a specific people which make
mostly negative point to the people and their culture. For example, someone who
thinks that all arabian are rude and won’t go in arab.
Intercultural
Competence is the ability of someone who can easily get along with other people even
they come from different culture. This competence is cosist of skill, knowledge
and attitudes towards other people from diferent culture. For example, an
indonesian who cooperates with some foreign bussiness, sometimes visit partner
places and behave polite such as bowing with bussiness partner from japan or
korea to show respect and welcome. Different case will happen if he meets with thai partner, he puts his
hand, combine his palms in front of his
chest and greet.
Ethnosentrism is by only using
someone’s own culture perspective or view, he or she judjes other culture. For
example, malaysian people sometimes call indonesian with “indon” which mean
“slave”.
