A good teacher for me is someone who have a strong personalities, can makes
the learner understand what they are studying, will not feel bored and
spiritfully continuing the study.
A strong personalities
I mean here are responsible, sociable, tolerant, honest, fair, good looking,
smart, proffesional, firm, hard worker, calm, comfortable, patient and
punctual. For instance, a tolerant teacher. Teacher should give tolerance for
students if the students for example, come late to class. A professional
teacher, of course know how to treat this students. If the students always come
late like that with the same reason, don’t give tolerance. If we give the wrong
tolerance, it will kill their character. Such as the students who come late
because of helping someone who get injured, if we don’t give tolerance, it will
make them hate us or lazy to help others.
An english
teacher should be able to explain what he/she teach. Not only explaining an
understandably lesson, but he/she should make sure that the students uderstand.
In this term, a good teacher should have a strong preparation (like, lesson
plan, understanding of students characteristic, and can predict the possibility
that would happen in the class), good
teaching process in the class, and justifiable evaluation in learning process.
In the
teaching process, teacher should also insert joke in the learning process in
order that the students will not feel bored. This joke also will make the
students relax between the difficulties they get in the lesson. A scary teacher
will not make the students to be smart, but it will drag out their willingness
to study. They will feel stress even just the name of “english lesson”. They
will be lazy and don’t care to the english lesson. Automatically, it will low
their grade.
A good teacher
is also a good motivator. Motivation, orally or writtenly, directly or
indirectly, should be given. Teacher have the responsibility to tell the
students what are the aim of studying, especially studying the lesson. Thus,
teacher have to know exactly the aim of learning english and some advantages of
learning it. By knowing those things, students will do learning with their own
motivation (may be the motivation appear from their mind) because it is clear
for them what are the purposes. Motivation should be given continuously to keep
the spirit of the learners with a unique way to make them attrached and think.

I will use cooperative learning in this situational class. I choose
Think-Pair-Share for the first. The facilities in the class will not be used on
the earlier week because they still have no chemistry, so we should build up
the chemistry and minimize the shy feeling first. Using the equipments will be
done after friendly situation created.
Think, Pair, Share, consist of three points. First, each
student is asked to complete a task or answer a question that requires them to
think. Second, each student is told to pair up with another student to compare,
contrast or confirm the ideas from the thinking time. Students are also asked
to adjust their ideas based on their conversation with their learning partner.
Third, students are asked to share with the other students in the class about what
they have learned during the entire activity.
For such the class, I design the lesson about easier
theme, such as introducing self identity or about their hobbies, something
about themselves. I will give them time to think and arrange about the words
they would say. Then we pair them, it can be the person who sit next to them.
Finally, we told some students share in front of the class.
Why I choose this strategy in learning as an effective
strategies for such students? This strategy can minimize their shame little by
little, step by step. By working alone at first, students are arranging their
words about the theme. Of course for students, especially shy students, it will
work. It is impossible if we directly ask them to come in front of the class,
but we need steps to minimize their shame. By creating them into pairs,
students will try to express their thought about the theme and share
information. Because the theme i’ll give is about their
identity/likes/dislikes, of course it
will make them know the characters each other. Pairing will destroy their shame
a little. On this stage, they express their thought with a person who listen
and comment, and also do it back to his/her pair. Finally, we ask them who
wants to speak in front of the class and others should pay attention. On this
stage, don’t point the students directly, just let them who wants to speak in
front of the class. Because, on the first meeting most of them will be afraid
to speak out. Don’t be worried if the students who speak are may be smarter or
braver people in the class. Because the shy people need example, in order that
they can produce sound in front of others. So, they will take an example from
the braver people. Keep give a positive feedback to them, and also convince the
others not to be shy.
For the next meetings, i will try to increase their ability in vocabularies, because if they
wants to master english, they should have enough vocabularies as the basic. I
will use memorizing and drills methods. For some meetings, I will use the
equipments like tape recorder for listening, projector for showing them
situational conversation/prosedure, etc.
